Fourth-graders Lucy and her friends lives are forever changed when Ms. Mirabel, an author, visits their class. She teaches them about how to find things to write about and other places to look for inspiration. Lucy struggles with this because she feels there is only sadness in her house because her mother has cancer. As the book progresses Lucy’s friends begin to write poems and nearly every chapter ends with one of their poems.
I book talked this book to a group of 3rd graders and had several kids asking for it afterward.
