The Help audiobook

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

This isn’t a review of the book itself, it’s a review of the audiobook. You can read tons of reviews of the book itself.

This is the absolute best audiobook I’ve listened to. Rarely am I moved to tears by an audiobook. It’s no wonder that this won an AudioFile Earphones Award. (There is also a clip available with the AudioFile review.)

Aibileen, Minny and Skeeter come alive on this audiobook. Each has her own distinctive voice with the perfect accent and emotion. Some audiobook readers read the book to you. In this audiobook, you begin to believe that these women aren’t just readers but in fact are the actual characters. Minny’s sassiness is pitch perfect, Skeeter is heartfelt and Aibileen is strong and emotional.

I became so engrossed in the story and characters that I began to refer to them as “my girls” and would work on sewing projects to listen to The Help. I was so sad when the book ended.
