The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams

ChosenOneThis book definitely lived up to the hype. Kyra lives in a polygamous compound and is supposed to marry her 60-year-old uncle because of a vision the Prophet has. A gripping book that I didn’t want to put down, sleep won most of the time.

Kyra’s love of books is strong and she’ll go to great lengths to visit the Mobile Library on Wheels that goes down the road near the compound. The culture of the compound is fascinating and Kyra really draws you into her world and how normal it seems to her to have three mothers. The book definitely deals with issues that young teen girls may face in a polygamous compound but it’s not so foreign that it won’t appeal to teen girls who live in the “normal” world. The popularity of Big Love and people’s fascination with the compound in Texas that was raided last year are two factors that may draw kids to this book.

It’s been a while since I was so intrigued by a book and literally didn’t want to sleep at night to read more.
